July 25, 2020 Update – Governor Reynolds Proclamation of Disaster Emergency signed on July 24th impacts many of the services provided at the Treasurer’s office.

The proclamation sections related to property taxes were extended through Friday, July 31, 2020.

The sections related to driving with an expired license were extended through August 23, 2020.

The sections related to motor vehicle renewals and title transfers were not extended and expire on July 25, 2020 at midnight.

What you need to know:

  • Pay March 2020 taxes by July 31, 2020 to avoid penalties.
  • Pay motor vehicle renewals by August 31, 2020, if your registration expired in the months of January 2020 through July 2020.
  • If you purchased a vehicle from March 16 – July 25, you must transfer the title by August 24th to avoid penalties.

The Guthrie County Treasurer’s Office is open to the public. A facemask is required for entry. Driver’s license remains by appointment only. If you have questions or need to schedule an appointment, call the office at 641-747-3414

Due to ongoing concerns about the spread of illness, we strongly encourage our residents to utilize online, mail, or drop box options to conduct business. There will be limits to the number of people we can accommodate in the courthouse hallway to allow social distancing. FROM NOW ON DRIVER’S LICENSE WILL BE BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. Please help us continue to offer all of the necessary services to our great county by conducting what business you can remotely. Thank you!

Treasurer’s Office Property Taxes:  The best and most secure way to pay property taxes is online.  Property taxes can be paid online at www.iowatreasurers.org . When paying online, you are provided a receipt to print for your records if needed.  If you need assistance making the online payment, please call our office and we can direct you.  The fee for an e-check is only $0.25.

The next best method is sending the payment by mail.  We will process your payments as they come in.  If you would like to have a receipt, please provide a self-addressed stamped envelope.  Please provide a telephone number with your mailed payment in the event we need to contact you.

A drop box is also available at the East Door of the courthouse for your convenience.

Treasurer’s Office Driver’s License:  If you need to renew your driver’s license, we encourage you to try to renew online at https://iowadot.gov/mvd/driverslicense/renew.  You do have 60 days after the expiration date on your driver’s license to renew.

If you need to get the REAL ID, we ask that you consider waiting until concerns regarding the COVID-19 Virus subside.  You will not need the REAL ID for domestic travel until October 1, 2021.
