Welcome to the Guthrie County Engineer’s Office and Secondary Roads Department. Our mission is to provide the residents of Guthrie County with a county road system that is safe and affordable.

The County Engineer is responsible for construction and maintenance of the Guthrie County Secondary Road System. Guthrie County’s road system consists of paved roads, gravel, seal-coated roads, and dirt roads. The Secondary Roads infrastructure also includes bridges and large drainage culverts

The Guthrie County Engineering and Secondary Roads offices are located at 2211 215th Road, Guthrie Center, Iowa. They have office hours weekdays from 7am to 3:30pm. The office can be reached via phone (641) 747-2274 and via fax (641) 747-3604.

Engineering Duties

  • Design, construction, and inspection of Guthrie County Secondary Road system road and bridge projects contract administration
  • Budgeting and program development
  • Personnel administration
  • Accounting functions
  • Response to petitions, requests, or concerns regarding roadway drainage and traffic studies, including road vacations, temporary road closures, and speed studies
  • Subdivision roadway design, approval
  • Entrance permit review and approval
  • Permitting of utility or other work within the county road right of way
  • Oversize/overweight vehicle permit issuance
  • Section corner information, aerial photo information and bench mark information is available for public viewing
  • Right of way information on Guthrie County construction projects

Maintenance Duties

  • Surface repairs and maintenance – this would include rocking the County’s gravel roads, paving the paved roads, pothole repairs, and shoulder rocking
  • Snow removal and ice control on County Road system
  • Bridge and culvert repairs
  • Maintenance of existing entrances
  • Sign installation and maintenance
