Open Burn Ban Information

Alert

Guthrie County is Currently in an Open Burn Ban.

During dry months of the year, it is common for there to be an open burn ban in Guthrie County. We've listed some information and resources to help you navigate this changing situation.

All county open burn bans are issued by the Iowa State Fire Marshall and are locally voted on by each Fire Chief of every Fire District in Guthrie County. When the majority of fire chiefs believe an open burn ban is appropriate, the fire marshalls office invesitages and determines if the conditions warrant such a ban.

Burning during an open burn ban is allowed only when a permit is filed and approved by the local fire chief. You can download a copy of the permit by clicking the link below. We've also included an Open Burn Ban Frequently Asked Questions document to help answer questions and you can check the status of open burn bans county by county at the link provided.
